Looking after our skin helps improving texture, hydration, appearance of wrinkles and stimulates skin renewal, boosting our confidence. So it's not just aesthetics but also wellbeing.

The Real Reason Why You’re Getting Monthly Hormonal Acne

If you’re over the age of 25, more than likely you’ve found that your blemishes are staring to level out. However, you may still deal with “that time of the month” breakouts. Often I’ll hear my clients say, “Like clockwork, I always break out right at the start of my period.” These breakouts can be cysts on the chin area (those hard, sore bumps under the skin that are painful and take forever to go away), or those familiar pustular-type zits. Either way, it’s frustrating and leaves you with the challenge of how to deal with them when they only come monthly during your cycle.
Why do you get them? What can you do to help prevent these hormonal breakouts? How do you ensure your skin is blemish free every day of the month? No worries! I’ve got answers and I’ve got solutions to “clear things up” for you.
What causes monthly hormonal breakouts? Just before the start of a woman’s cycle, there is more progesterone in the skin causing water retention resulting in the skin appearing puffier. (If you find yourself bloated and your pants get a little tight, then this surely will sound familiar.) When this occurs, it puts pressure on the pores and creates a narrower pore lining. Additionally, oil can get thicker because of the imbalance of hormones and the increase of testosterone during the pre-period hormonal shift. When you have thicker oil trying to get through a narrower opening, this creates an environment within the skin where breakouts can now begin.
What can you do to prevent these from appearing? The key here is prevention. Most of you probably have a plan of attack for when a blemish appears, to get it to go away as quickly as possible, but it’s more challenging to try to figure out how to prevent them from showing up in the first place.

Modify your skincare routine slightly about 3 to 5 days prior to the start of your menstrual cycle. Replace 2-3 products in your current regimen with ones that focus on clearing away bacteria to prevent the formation of breakouts. I generally suggest switching up your cleanser. If you’re currently not using a mask, add one for daily use during this time. If your hormonal breakouts usually appear on a certain area of the face such as the chin, you might consider using these products on that area only, so as not to give other places on your face something they don’t need.
Use products containing the ingredient, salicylic acid. It’s a keratolytic beta hydroxy acid (BHA) ingredient famous for its ability to penetrate the pores to help clear out bacteria and shed breakout-clogging cells—all without irritating the skin and causing dryness. It is important to understand  that most acne products are intended to dry out breakouts when they are in their active stage; while this is appropriate for someone who has a lot of pustular acne showing all over their face (such as a teenager), it’s simply NOT appropriate for the prevention of adult acne. Drying out the skin will only make it worse as this creates surface cell buildup that can keep oil and bacteria trapped in the pore leading to even more breakouts. Plus, adult skin types need to focus on keeping the skin in a healthy, hydrated state to encourage the slowdown of lines and wrinkles. You’ll usually find salicylic acid in cleansers, serums and masks, as well as in acne spot treatments. It’s a fabulous ingredient with proven results in preventing the appearance of blemishes. (And it helps with blackheads, too!)

5 Best Drugstore's Hand Creams

Hi everyone,

How uncomfortable it is having your hands so dry and cracked through Winter? I'll say...

I suffer from extremely dry hands and with this cold weather things get really bad. I know many people also suffer from that so I put together 5 hand creams that I think are some of the best drugstore's hand creams.
I tried so many products and only a few satisfied me leaving my hands so soft and nourished.
I will also give you some tips in how you can keep them soft and crack free hands which can be very painful sometimes.
As a beauty therapist I always tell my clients to look after their hands specially in the winter and I give them some recipe to keep the hands gorgeous and looking young most of the time.

5 of the best drugstore's hand creams in my opinion:

1- L'occitane En Provence hand cream - one of my friends recommended this one because my hands were very sore and in a few days it made them look and feel better, it has a lovely rose scent, but didn't last as I was applying every time. I found them quite expensive though.

2- Neutrogena Concentrated hand cream -  reasonable price but the consistency is too thick it doesn't have a nice smell and I would recommend this one for Male's hands.

3- Nivea Age Defying Q10 Plus hand cream - has a sweet fragrance, not very strong and price is OK. It left my hands very soft, the cream has a thin consistency and you feel the softness in your hands for quite a long time, but be careful it can be a bit of mess when applied in a large quantity.

4- Vaseline healthy hand & stronger nails hand cream - the cream left my hands very soft and smooth but only for a little while, price is good, I found it a bit sticky and it has a nice floral fragrance.

5- Dove Winter care hand cream - has this creamy smell, very efficient and left my hands very soft, reasonable price and it has a good consistency great to carry on your hand bag like all the other ones above, it has natural ingredients and essential oils for everyday use. In fact they all are for everyday use anyway.

Here are some tips to keep your hands fresh and young:
  • Try to apply oils on your hands everyday such as jojoba oil, grape seed or just a simple olive oil to keep your skin moist and fresh.
  • Apply as many times as you want and need it only helps your skin
  • Try to wash your dishes and clean your house with rubber gloves as the cleaning products can really damage your skin.
  • If you can sleep a couple of nights during the week with loads of cream on your hand and wear gloves I know sometimes it can get a bit warm but it worth the sacrifice, you will wake up in the morning with a soft hand.
  • Have your manicure done once a week to keep not only your hand but also your nails and cuticles healthy.
And there you go, beautiful hands at all times, if you have anymore ideas please do let us know in the comments box.

Thank you!!!

After 4 weeks, the signs of fatigue around the eyes look visibly reduced as this lightweight eye cream re-texturizers and evens tone in the eye contour area.

3- Dove Winter Care Nourishing Body LotionThe lotion works deep down and not only moisturises the surface of your skin, but also delivers deep nourishment for long lasting beautifully soft and smooth skin. The rich formula, gives the intensive care we need for the cold season. It treats dry skin so that it recovers, and the warm fragrance of Amber flower provides a pampering sensation. The unique deep care Complex includes skin natural nutrients and rich essential oil to help gradually improve skin starting deep down to the stratus corneum.

4- L’occitane Shea Butter Hand CreamEnriched with 20% Shea Butter, the super-creamy Shea Butter Hand Cream penetrates quickly to protect, nourish and moisturise hands. Honey, almond extracts and coconut oil are blended with shea butter to create this extremely effective care. The rich texture is rapidly absorbed to leave the hands soft and smooth with no oily traces.

5- The Body Shop Honeymania Lip Balm This luxuriously sweet lip balm contains Community Fair Trade honey made from the nectar of wildflowers. It has a sweet, floral scent and leaves lips feeling soft. This one I recommend...

Non Surgical Facelift, Galvanic & High Frequency #facial #review

We all know that skin condition is a matter of skin health and not just aesthetics. While a proper skin care is one of the most effective ways to maintain the issue of ageing, blemishes and dehydration, our skin could use an extra boost, which is why I recommend the use of electrical machines also known as facial and body electrotherapy.

Electrotherapy is a range of beauty treatments that uses low electric currents passed through the skin to produce several therapeutic effects such as deep cleansing of the skin, muscle toning in the face and body and lifting of the face.Current technologies offer various electrical machines to aid in the treatment of skin condition. Such machines include High Frequency, Galvanic and Micro-Current.

As a professional I know many people aren't aware of the benefits of these treatments which could boost their confidence and self esteem as well as for the beauty therapist to be able to offer more treatments to clients and Salon owners which could increase their business in every way. Ageing, blemished and dehydrated skin are conditions that we all face. Our skin ages every day, and it is up to us to take the necessary preventive measures to ensure our skin ages at a slower frequency. Electrical treatments offer ways to address the issues that go with any skin condition to help clients maintain not only a youthful appearance, but also a good skin health.

A galvanic facial involves the use of mild electric direct currents consisting of positive and negative ions to refresh, stimulate and rejuvenate the skin. The average time for the treatment can vary from 25 to 40 minutes, prices also vary.

The treatment aims to improve the skin in two ways:

  • Cleansing which is a process called desincrustation, which a pre-treatment gel with a negative charge is applied to the skin; and
  • nourishing through iontophoresis, which a second gel with a positive charge is applied to a clean and dry skin.
This is achieved by the application of a small, constant, direct current. The treatment works on the belief that charged ions in the skin are either attracted or repelled from the electrodes (conductors or probes). Galvanic treatment is normally done on the face for deep cleansing and on the body to treat cellulite.

Benefits and effects of Galvanic:

• Tightening and firming of tissues.
• Decrease in blood flow.
• Decrease in sensitivity.
• Reduction of oedema and lymph stagnation.
• Oxygenation of cells.
• Calms and soothes the skin.
• Restores critical moisture.
• Regenerates the skin.
• Stimulates cell renewal and improves skin vitality.

High Frequency

High-frequency treatment uses low-current high-frequency alternating currents, carried via a glass electrode (conductor or probes). Because the high frequency current converts some of the oxygen in the air into ozone, the treatment has a germicidal action. The treatment is used to aid healing, and also to help desquamation (the skin's natural exfoliation), and stimulate sweat and sebaceous glands.

This helps dry out spots and it is good for oily skin. An indirect high frequency facial uses a saturator electrode held by the client to draw a moisturising massage medium deeper into the skin, and so is best suited for more mature or dry skin types. The treatment also lasts between 25 to 40 minutes and it can be done once a week for the first 4 treatments and once a month after that.
The machine can be used most on the face but can also be used on the back for a "back facial" (the same process for facials) to treat spots.

Benefits of High Frequency:

• Stimulates circulation of the blood.
• Increases glandular activity.
• Aids in elimination of toxins and absorption of nutrients to the cell.
•  Increases metabolism.
• Germicidal action occurs during use.
• Generates heat inside the tissues.
• Aids in deeper penetration of product into the skin.

Benefits of Indirect High Frequency:

• Aiding in the penetration of treatment creams/serums/complexes by increasing the blood flow.
• Regenerating the skin.
• Re-energising tired and stressed skin.
•  Assisting in massage for an ageing skin using the indirect method.

Microcurrent is a low level of electrical current that reflects body’s own natural current, which is sub sensory in most causes and therefore barely noticeable. The treatment works by passing a very small direct current through muscle tissue to stimulate our sensory receptor and that is why it is very important that the beauty therapist knows exactly where the origins and insertion of the muscle are for best results.

It is a anti ageing skin treatment used to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by improving texture and appearance of skin and reducing the overall visual appearance of ageing. Skin care therapists use micro-current to tone and firm the skin and it is most related to the term "non surgical face lifting".

The treatment can be done between 30 to 45 minutes and it depends on the client's skin type, condition and age. Most beauty salons offer the treatment by courses of 6 or 10 sessions and prices also vary. It can also be applied on the body (breasts) to help lifting the skin.

Benefits of Microcurrent:

• Improve muscle tone in face and neck.
• Lift jowls and eyebrows.
• Skin exfoliation.
• Sun damaged treatment.
• Increase product penetration.
• Reduce wrinkles and eliminate fine lines
• Improve facial circulation

I hope this post has been really helpful. Let me know if you have any question...

Elemis Skin Buff & Visible Brilliance - Review, Photos & Swatches

Hi Ya!!

Elemis is the leading luxury British spa and skincare brand favoured by as many as 6.5 million spa-goers per year.
The successful combination of natural active ingredients with cutting-edge technology has enabled them to bring to market some of the most influential anti-ageing products and professional spa-therapies the beauty industry has ever seen.

A key figure in Elemis’ success has been the ongoing support of Jan Kusmirek, one of the world’s leading authorities on organic ingredients, Essential Oils and medicinal plant extracts. His expertise has enabled the company to discover some of the world’s most cutting-edge ingredients and manufacturing techniques to guarantee every product delivers maximum results.

I have been using Elemis Skin Buff & Elemis Visible Brilliance for about 4 weeks now and ladies I will be really honest with you.

When I started using the skin Buff, I stopped with my old one straight way, which was Neutrogena - Blackhead Eliminating Daily Scrub, It left my skin so smoothly even that my family noticed after a few days using it, exfoliator and cleanser in only one product, I didn't need to use any other product; if you can use only one which reduces your shower time specially if you don't have much time in the morning like me, that's even better. Don't you agree?

The skin buff left my skin with a fresh complexion every morning, yes, I use it every day to give me the results I want and I have always done this way, for years; scrubbing my face every day.
Its tiny crumbs really cleans my face and it's very efficient, it eliminates and prevents blackhead, well at least on my skin it worked beautifully, as my face was all covered in black heads. I don't know why, but my skin stated being like that from my 30's, any way I found what I was looking for. Thank you Elemis!

I also liked Elemis Visible Brilliance which is a serum that brightens and re-energises stressed skin, for people like me who work the whole day on a stressed environment. Yes readers, I work everyday from 10am to 6pm from Monday to Friday; I'm a working mum of two, so the job is doubled and this serum is everything.

I apply the serum everyday in the morning and night just before I go to bed, and I don't use anything else. My skin feels so much rested and smoothed in the morning when I wake up. It works like a prep for my skin before makeup, but if you really want to see results you must use it everyday. If you fail this process, it will take longer to show.

At the top, you have to twist the collar anti-clockwise and press the white pump to dispense the product and when you are done twist the collar back to close it. Easy peasy!! I'm still using both skincare products because I really liked them; it worked for my skin which was dull, with black heads, tired and they just made my life easier.

Right! I do find them quite pricey, but it's worth a try!
Skin Buff online for £24.60
Visible Brilliance for £40.90

So ladies I really hope you liked my review and let me know if you have ever used Elemis product and what your thoughts are...

Thank you for stopping by...

@SoapandGlory - THE SCRUB OF YOUR LIFE Review, Photos & Swatches

As a beauty therapist I know many people don't even know about exfoliants which I personally think it's one of the most important skin care routine we need to help with our natural desquamation.
Desquamation is the skin's own natural exfoliation process and sometimes we need a little help to smooth it down and get rid of the dead skins which causes rush, bumps and thick skin. Anyway, I can't live without a face and body scrub and I use these daily and that's why I would love to give my readers this amazing tip.

"The scrub of your life" is thick,  foamy and fantastically fresh, it’s satisfyingly stuffed with just the right ratio of scrubbing beads. It’s also scented with pink fragrance. In the shower, turn off the water, squeeze out a handful of and get a smooth on. Scrub and soap up until satisfied, then rinse thoroughly.

Soap & glory can be found anywhere online or drugstores such as Boots and Superdrugs; the price is reasonable for a skincare brand. I do love it!

I don't think I'm going to change it so soon and I've been using it for a couple of years now, this product leaves my skin so soft and smooth with a glow, for me it's very important in the winter, and the main areas are elbows, lower legs, back of upper arm and upper back.

The ingredients are: Aqua (Water), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Glycerin, Polyethylene, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Propylene Glycol, Cocamide DEA, Acrylates/Palmeth-25 Acrylate Copolymer, Synthetic Wax, Parfum (Fragrance), Sodium Chloride, Dipropylene Glycol, Hexyl, Cinnamal, Xanthan Gum, Limonene,, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Sodium Hydroxide, Linalool, Benzyl Salicylate,

Tetrasodium EDTA, Geraniol, Disodium Phosphate, Sorbitol, Methylisothiazolinone, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Citrus Nobilis, (Mandarin Orange) Peel Extract, Citral, Quillaja Saponaria Bark Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben,
CI 73360 (Red 30), CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide).

It's important to know what is in it especially because of allergies, however of course many people won't know what most of the ingredients are in any product, but it helps a lot those who can't use everything.

@OROGOLDcosmetic 24K Deep Peeling & Body Cream - #review, Photos & #swatches

Hi There,

I was walking in Covent garden when this guy called me to show me this product. I was a bit worried he would try to sell me rubbish products, then I went in the shop to see more and I was amazed with their beauty product which has gold in it. It's the OroGold,

And these are the ones that I bought:

24K Deep Peeling - Designed to provide a powerful facial cleanse by removing a thin layer of dry cells to reveal ultra-smooth and youthful skin. It is specially formulated to gently polish, renew, and revitalize the skin without stripping away vital oils or causing irritation. 24K Deep Peeling is formulated with 24K Gold along with ingredients such as, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E) and Green Tea. Once a week, or as directed by your beautician, wash your face and add a small amount of the product to your face, avoiding the eye area. Rub the peel in a circular motion; do not leave the product on for more than 30 seconds. Built up dirt and oil will come to the surface. Be sure to remove completely by washing your face with cool water.

24K Body Cream - Ultimate body cream may be used for all skin types. Combining essential vitamins and oils, this excellent, non-greasy moisturizer melts on skin contact leaving the skin feeling soft, smooth and delicately scented. Apply a sufficient amount onto clean, dry skin.

I tried the peeling and loved it, I used it use it once a week, and I'm using the body cream every day. Just can't get enough! they are excellent products, very pricey but good, I bought the peeling for £50 and I got the body cream as complementary. Both products left my skin very soft with a lovely smell.Would I buy it again? Hum, maybe. They were there only for a few days but we can find them on the website.

Lovely for summer. This one I recommend.

@Avon_UK Magix Face Perfector #review

Hi Girls,

I did find the Avon Magix Face Perfector a good product for people who doesn't like heavy makeup and it worked like a primer for me. Price very reasonable, last quite a while and made my skin soft and smooth, however I wouldn't use it without a foundation as I like to cover my skin.  The product is a magical air-light gel-powder colorless formula that makes all skin tones look flawless... Very true!
They say it is an invisible light coverage and instant perfection product. It also banishes shine up to 10 hours. You must apply evenly in the morning or before sun exposure.

This product really left my skin soft with a beautiful colour and took all the shine away, I used it every single day before my foundation to help hold the makeup on for longer. The only thing was that when it was about to finish there was a water like liquid coming through it (I'm not sure exactly what it was) so I couldn't it use any more and I don't know about pores as my pores were the same, but the product is good though. I would use it again!

I hope you like the post, let us know your thoughts...

Pure Gold Collagen Review & Photos

Golden Collagen is based on a formula specifically developed to offer a unique blend of collagen and active ingredients for high absorption and bioavailability.
  • Promote younger looking skin
  • Improve skin hydration
  • Reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles
But what is collagen? Is a natural component of the skin which helps the skin to preserve its firmness and elasticity. Complicated? Gold Collagen is a liquid that comes in small bottle and you must drink it once a day (only one bottle per day) and it helps keep your skin much firmer and younger. There are collagen in lotions or capsules for you to apply or take, but this one called my attention because you have to drink it.

I'm not sure if it works as I'm in my second week now and I haven't seen any results yet. To be honest with you I don't really know how long you have to wait to see results.

The little bottles are made of glass and comes in a box with 10 in total. It is not cheap at all, the box costs £35 I found it very expensive, I just bought it to try.
On the box it says you must take on per day for 4 to 8 weeks, which is approximately 3 boxes for 4 weeks at £105. This is not a joke! Extremely expensive, however comparing with other treatments, that you have to go to beauty salons, I do think at the end of the day it is not that expensive. I don't know if I would buy another box. I will see at the end of this one. It doesn't taste so pleasant also. Shame!

So girls, would you try it yourselves despite the price? Let me know!
But remember it can't be taken with out any food or to be used as substitute and it has Vitamin C, E and B6.

@EsteeLauder DayWear Plus Multi Protection Anti-Oxidant Creme SPF 15 #review & Photos

Hi girls,

As many of my readers know I have dry cheeks and oily nose, forehead and chin which we call combination skin. I used to have a very dry skin, but my skin has changed a lot in the last few years, I mean as I get older my skin type and condition change.
I have tried all sorts of moisturisers, lotions, balm you name it, some work really well and some are just not for my skin. At the moment I've been trying Estee Lauder DayWear Plus Multi Protection Anti-Oxidant Creme SPF 15 which the feedback has been 50/50 between everyone who tried the product.

My opinion: The cucumber scent is really soft and refreshing when I apply the cream in the mornings, I can really feel it's oil-free as it didn't leave my skin greasy as some oil free moisturisers do. Left my skin very smooth, with a glow, hydrated and soft all day long and worked very well as a primer for my foundation.

The texture is perfect as it isn't greasy or watery, I was looking for a day moisturiser with SFP and at the same time for my skin type as I don't believe much in "all skin types" creams. It is also a bit pricey at £40 for 50ml but I think it worth a try. The product takes away the worst of the dryness on my cheeks and didn't clog my pores specially on my nose and forehead. It's perfect for winter.
I would definitely recommend this to all ladies with normal/combination and dry skin.

Tips: If you have acne prone skin try Estee Lauder Daywear Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-OxidantLotion SPF15 for extra moisture this product should work great for you.

5 Best Drugstore Face Primers Under £15

Most of us know that face primer is one of the best ways to insure our makeup stays on longer. The primers pamper the skin and create a protective barrier, they are excellent for people with combination to oily skin. Just apply after moisturiser and let it sink into the skin for a few minutes, and carry on with your regular foundation routine and the best thing we can do is to keep these products on a budget as we can find quite a few extremely expensive.
Of course we want an affordable primer with quality, which it is not very easy to find, so I have five drugstore primers that I tested for under £15. As I said you can find primer for all skin types, condition and skin tones which is perfect for every woman. 17 Miracle Matte Skin Primer - It's amazing for oily t-zone, it helps mattifying the skin and combat the shine for a while, and this one claims to be the solution to a stay perfect look and shine-free base for up to 22 hours. Let's say a bit less than that, but the primer did a good job on my skin though. £4.99 at Boots.

Thank you!!

@Clinique_UK Even Better Eyes - Corretivo para Olheiras - Resenha,Fotos & Swatches

kaeso Beauty - Review & Photos

 Hi girls,

How amazing is the brand for facials treatment, I have been using it for over a year on myself and on my clients skin and how soft and smooth the skin looks after a couple of treatments!!

I wasn't sure at the beginning because I didn't know their products, after using it in different skin types and conditions I can tell you they are good.
Kaeso has different ranges for each skin I've got calming range for sensitive skin. Their exfoliantor is very gently on the face and the setting mask really calms the skin down after a whole process of facial treatment which leaves the skin quite sensitive.

The cleanser and toner are also brilliant products to start and finish off the service. Kaeso also have products for manicure and pedicure such as hand and feet lotion, exfoliant, massage cream and others. I don't think they are expensive at all and if you buy the kit you pay much less than a popular brand. I do buy my ones from Capital Hair & Beauty, but you can also find Kaeso at any Salon Services shop, Beauty Express, Your Salon Store, etc. But bare in mind some of these shops only sell for traders.

If you go to a beauty salon for a facial, manicure or pedicure treatment and they have this brand I think you should give a try because Kaeso does give you result after a few treatments.
